About the Department: |
|
|
| Department of physics was established in 1957. The built up area of the department is 517sq.meter. Prof. G.M.Puvathingal was the first Head of the Department from 1957 to 1998. After him, the department was headed by Prof. A.J.BAL upto 2002. Mr. H.S.Ahamad is serving as Head of the Department since 2002. |

| The objective of this center is to promote the scientific temperament among students. It has been the tradition of department to maintain the results better than the overall results of university. |

About The subject: |

| Physics is the mother of all sciences, engineering and technology. Fundamentals of Physics are the framework on which every other science is built. Physics is a natural science that involves the study of matter and its motion through space-time, as well as all applicable concepts, such as energy and force. Study of Physics is significant and influential because advances in its understanding generates new ideas in science to gives birth to new technologies . It facilitates modern-day society with new and advanced gadgets, useful to live daily life with ease. Domestic appliances, Television, computers, mobiles, nuclear energy plants, motor bikes, cars, airplanes, refrigeration techniques and air-conditioners are few to name, based on the basic principles and laws of Physics directly or indirectly.
Physics offers challenging, exciting, and productive careers. As a career, physics covers many specialized fields -- from acoustics, astronomy, nuclear physics and astrophysics to medical physics, geophysics, and vacuum sciences.
It offers a variety of work activities-lab supervisor, researcher, technician, teacher, manager and directors. Physics opens doors to employment opportunities throughout the world in government, industry, research institutes, forensic labs, schools, colleges, universities, coaching classes, science centers and private organizations with fabulous pay package.

Facility Available with the Department: |

The Department has two separate laboratories with one big Dark Room provided with many sodium and Mercury sources and one laboratory for junior college. All these laboratories are well equipped. The Department also has a library with a good collection of more then 100 books apart from college Central Library. The Department also have computer facility with (1+3) computers which are utilized by the staff and student when needed.

Following combinations are available for Batchler of Science( B.Sc.) degree course with Physics as one of the Subject.
1.) Batchler of Science( B.Sc. ) in Physics, Mathematics , Chemistry (PMC)
2.) Batchler of Science( B.Sc. ) in Physics, Mathematics , Electronics(PME)
3.) Batchler of Science( B.Sc. ) in Physics, Mathematics , Computer Science (PMC/S) |
All these courses are of three year duration and are affiliated to RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur. Each year there three theory papers of physics , each with 40 marks and one practical based on theory and computers with a weightage of 30 marks. Exams are conducted annually by the university.

It is a grant-in-aid undergraduate course affiliated to Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur approved by Government of Maharashtra and recognized by UGC under 2f and 12b.
